Zoomlion Foundation supports eye patient to undergo surgery
At 25 years of age, Andy Laud Acquah, a student of Pentecost University College, was diagnosed with a detrimental eye defect called Keratoconus (thinning of the Cornea).
Andy was gradually losing his vision and could not write the end of semester examinations. According to doctors, to prevent him from losing his vision in the left eye, Acquah would have to undergo Deep Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) surgery, a complex surgical procedure, which could not be undertaken in Ghana for lack of equipment. After making contact with a health facility in India, Acquah realized the cost of the surgery was beyond his means. He made several fruitless attempts to raise funds. He wrote to the Zoomlion Foundation with details of the costs involved. The Foundation generously granted him a total amount of GH₵10,000.00. Other individuals also assisted him.
The transplant was performed successfully by Dr. Rishi Swarup at Swarup Eye Center in Hyderabad, India. Upon returning to Ghana, Andy paid a visit to the Zoomlion Foundation with a smile on his face. He was full of joy and appreciation for helping him regain his eyesight. He said, “I really thank the Executive Chairman, the entire Board and the Coordinators of Zoomlion Foundation very much for helping me to regain my sight. The Lord will greatly bless Zoomlion. “
